Singer/songwriter Tomás Solongo Fuentes, left Cuba to find other musical inspirations and of course, he landed in Belgium. Together with other compatriots, they formed Tomi y su Timbalight where the sound is refreshing, like a summer breeze.
While a few Timba bands have recorded albums with the "light" moniker (referring to the sound not being as hard), they usually sound corny. Luckily for us, Tomi doesn't fall into that hole. The title track, as well as "La fiera", "Déjala que baile", "El vanidoso" and "Tú tranquilo" are pure fire that will have dancers asking for more.
But not everything is geared toward the Timba generation. The modern Cha-cha-chá of "Muchachacha" and the bolero-son of "Empezar a vivir" with a subtle piano solo by Norman Peplow, demostrate the versatility of the band and that at the heart of everything, Mr. Tomás is an old soul with one foot in the past and the other in the future.
